Rob Cross – “Voltage” and PDC World Champion
Rob Cross, known by his nickname “Voltage”, has been one of the best-known players in professional darts since his spectacular breakthrough. The Englishman made the transition from amateur player to the biggest stages of the PDC in an incredibly short period of time and crowned his remarkable rise by winning the World Championship on his debut.
His controlled throwing style, strong scoring and reliable finishing quickly established Cross among the world’s elite. He has been equipped by Target Darts for many years, with numerous Rob Cross player darts, flights and accessories developed in cooperation with the manufacturer.
From Electrician to PDC World Champion
The story of Rob Cross is one of the most remarkable careers in modern darts. At the beginning of 2017, Cross was still working as an electrician and competing mainly in amateur and local events. Strong performances on the PDC Challenge Tour eventually helped him make the step onto the professional PDC circuit.
During his very first ProTour season, Cross attracted major attention with several tournament victories. His consistent performances earned him qualification for numerous major events and ultimately for his first PDC World Darts Championship.
2018 World Champion
At the 2018 PDC World Championship, Rob Cross produced one of the most impressive tournament debuts in darts history. In his first appearance at the event, he reached the final immediately.
There, “Voltage” faced the legendary Phil Taylor, who was playing the final tournament of his professional career. Cross won the final and became 2018 PDC World Champion during his first full season on the professional PDC Tour.
The victory instantly made Rob Cross one of the most recognisable players in world darts and firmly established him among the international elite.
World Matchplay and Further Major Titles
Rob Cross confirmed his World Championship success with further major victories. In 2019, he won the prestigious World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, becoming one of the select group of players to have won both the World Championship and the World Matchplay.
Cross has also enjoyed major success at the European Championship, winning the title in both 2019 and 2021. His career also includes numerous victories on the ProTour, European Tour and international World Series circuit.
Even many years after his World Championship triumph, “Voltage” continues to compete regularly for PDC titles. His experience, calm throwing action and ability to perform in decisive moments make him especially dangerous in longer matches.
Rob Cross and Target Darts
Rob Cross has been supported by Target Darts since the beginning of his professional PDC career. Over the years, numerous player darts have been developed with the manufacturer to reflect his personal preferences and setup.
Many Rob Cross darts feature a relatively straight barrel with clearly defined grip sections. Different generations and special editions allow players to choose between various tungsten percentages, grip structures and designs.
In addition to traditional player darts, Target also offers flights, K-Flex systems and other accessories featuring Rob Cross designs. This makes it possible to build a complete setup inspired both visually and technically by the multiple major champion.
Rob Cross 95K – A Modern Generation of His Setup
One of the more recent models is the Target Rob Cross 95K range. The barrels are made from 95% tungsten and feature a straight profile with precision-milled grip sections and radial grooves.
The steel-tip version also features Target’s Swiss Point technology. This system allows players to change points quickly with the appropriate tool and experiment with different point lengths and grip styles.
The Rob Cross 95K setup is also combined with a dedicated Rob Cross K-Flex. This integrated flight and shaft system keeps the flight at a consistent 90-degree angle and offers a modern alternative to the traditional separate flight and shaft combination.
A Distinctive Playing Style
Rob Cross has a very controlled and repeatable throwing action. His movement is relatively compact and calm, while still allowing him to maintain extremely high scoring levels for extended periods.
One of his biggest strengths is his ability to hit important doubles under pressure. This quality played a major role in his World Championship victory and remains one of the characteristics that makes “Voltage” such a dangerous opponent.
Rob Cross Darts, Flights and Accessories
The Rob Cross collection has become one of the more extensive player ranges from Target Darts. It includes different steel-tip and soft-tip darts, flights, K-Flex versions and additional accessories.
This makes the range suitable not only for fans of the former World Champion, but also for players who prefer a straight barrel, controlled grip and traditionally balanced setup. Here you can find matching Rob Cross darts, flights and Target accessories to create your own setup.
