Interchangeable Steel Dart Points – Systems, Differences and Compatibility

Modern interchangeable steel dart points allow worn, damaged or bent points to be replaced quickly. In most cases, no traditional repointing tool is required.

Different manufacturers use different systems, threads and locking methods. This guide explains the main point systems and helps you find the right option for your darts.

What are interchangeable steel dart points?

Traditional steel dart points are pressed permanently into the barrel. Interchangeable systems use a thread or a special locking mechanism, allowing the point to be removed and replaced with the matching tool.

This makes it easier to replace damaged points and test different lengths, colours and surface designs.

Benefits of interchangeable point systems

  • Quick replacement of damaged or worn points
  • No traditional repointing machine required in most cases
  • Different point lengths can be tested easily
  • Smooth, grooved and structured finishes available
  • Replacement points are easy to carry in a dart case

Which points fit which darts?

Not every interchangeable point fits every dart. Some systems may share similar fittings, while others only work with specially designed barrels. Always check the point system used in your barrel before ordering.

Traditional steel dart points

Traditional steel dart points are pressed into the barrel and do not use a screw thread. A repointing tool is required to remove the old point and press in a new one.

Point length and surface

Shorter points create a compact setup, while longer points increase the distance between the barrel and dartboard and can help with tighter groupings. Smooth points are easier to remove from the board, while grooved or structured points provide more grip.

Frequently asked questions

Do all interchangeable points fit every dart?

No. Each system uses its own thread or locking method. Always check the point system used in your barrel.

Do I need a special tool?

Usually yes. Most systems require a matching tool to loosen and tighten the point safely.

Do I need a traditional repointing machine?

Not for modern interchangeable point systems. Traditional press-fit points do require a repointing tool.

Are Caliburn EVO and EZ-EVO the same?

No. Caliburn EVO uses an adapter or spigot, while EZ-EVO points screw directly into a specially designed M2.5 barrel with a spring.

Can I use different point lengths?

Yes, provided the chosen length is available for your point system.

When should a point be replaced?

Replace the point if it is bent, damaged, heavily worn or no longer holds securely in the board.
